Sadly, the majority of lost pets are never reunited with their owners. This is because the animal cannot be identified and the owners cannot be contacted. To ensure your pet is correctly identified, in the event that they may become lost, be sure to:
- register your pet with local council and make sure it wears a current council registration tag fitted on the collar
- place an additional ID tag with your name and address on the collar
- microchip your pet by an authorized implanter.
If your pet has gone missing don’t wait too long to start your search. There are a number of things you can immediately do to increase your chances of finding your pet:
- Contact your local council and nearby councils
- Notify animal shelters that your pet is missing, and to check whether it has been impounded
- Ring your local Vets to see if anyone has brought in a lost animal
- Ask your neighbours if they have seen your pet wandering in your local area
- Check the places were your dog frequently visits.
