Lost Animals

Lost AnimalsSadly, the majority of lost pets are never reunited with their owners.  This is because the animal cannot be identified and the owners cannot be contacted.  To ensure your pet is correctly identified, in the event that they may become lost, be sure to:

  • register your pet with local council and make sure it wears a current council registration tag fitted on the collar
  • place an additional ID tag with your name and address on the collar
  • microchip your pet by an authorized implanter.

If your pet has gone missing don’t wait too long to start your search.  There are a number of things you can immediately do to increase your chances of finding your pet:

  • Contact your local council and nearby councils
  • Notify animal shelters that your pet is missing, and to check whether it has been impounded
  • Ring your local Vets to see if anyone has brought in a lost animal
  • Ask your neighbours if they have seen your pet wandering in your local area
  • Check the places were your dog frequently visits.

Stray Animals

Stray AnimalsIf you find a stray pet, there are a number of things you can do to help them find their way back home.

Check the collar of the pet for any form of identification

  • Contact your local council and nearby councils
  • If the animal is in pain or injured take it your closest Veterinary Practice as soon as possible
  • Ring your local Vet and animal shelter to see if they have been contacted by the owner.

Remember, most lost pets have a good home waiting for them.  Your efforts can make all the difference to help reunite a lost pet with their owner.
